The Union for Reform Judaism (URJ) connects Reform Jewish communities in
North America to create a dynamic network of congregants, lay leaders,
clergy and professionals. Our progressive, inclusive approach unites six
thousand years of Jewish tradition and values with modern Jewish
experience to strengthen Reform Judaism today and for future
generations. Through training, consultation, and networking facilitated
by the URJ, our nearly 900 member congregations enhance their capacity
to build and expand community, deepen Jewish learning, energize worship,
invigorate spirituality, pursue social justice and develop inspired
leadership.
As a member of the World Union for Progressive Judaism, the URJ connects Reform Jews in North America with Liberal/Progressive/Reform congregations around the globe. The URJ also represents Reform congregations in regional, North American and international organizations that include the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations and the Jewish Council for Public Affairs.

History
Founded in 1873 by Rabbi Isaac Mayer Wise, the URJ has grown from 34 congregations in 28 cities to more than 900 congregations in the United States, Canada, the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.
Policies & Governance
The Union for Reform Judaism is governed by a Board of Trustees that meets twice each year. The board consists almost entirely of lay leaders who are members of URJ congregations throughout the United States and Canada.
Support Reform Judaism
Support of the Union for Reform Judaism ensures a vibrant Reform Movement
by strengthening congregations, supporting lifelong Jewish learning and
promoting social justice. The Fund
for Reform Judaism makes it possible to provide essential services to Reform
congregations throughout North America through
a team of congregational consultants and specialists, groundbreaking
initiatives, and special resources available to all congregations.
Leadership & Staff
The URJ's staff of about 300 professionals and support staff is led by Rabbi Eric H. Yoffie, president, and Rabbi Daniel H. Freelander, senior vice president. The staff provide congregations and their members with creative programming ideas for all areas of synagogue life, including worship, education and social action. The staff also provides ongoing consultation and problem solving for member congregations, and works to anticipate and meet their needs in a rapidly changing environment.
