    Success was achieved in stopping a Knesset vote on the conversion bill. No issue in recent memory has so mobilized Jews from all streams and all parts of Israel and the Diaspora as has the bill proposed by MK David Rotem to vest authority for conversions in the hands of the Chief Rabbinate.   • Rabbi Yoffie announces upcoming retirement and sets a bold agenda for his final two years as president
    In his report to the Union's Board of Trustees, Rabbi Eric Yoffie announces his upcoming retirement effective June 2012, noting "My work as president of the Union has been extraordinarily fulfilling, endlessly challenging, and a great joy in every way."
  • Gulf Coast Recovery
    In response to the crisis in the Gulf of Mexico, the Union is partnering with the Jewish Funds for Justice (JFSJ) to help the people most affected by the oil spill. Funds will be used to support grass roots organizations that are assisting those who are out of work, retraining people for new jobs and working on recovering the coastline.
