Recent studies suggest that engagement through teen philanthropy is extraordinarily compelling for high school students. The URJ's Campaign for Youth Engagement is about to begin the second year of its Teen Philanthropy pilot, in collaboration with the Jewish Teen Funders Network. During the past year, eight congregations have participated in the design and implementation of a 20 hour educational program that takes teens from understanding the real meaning of tzedakah, to making their own grants – with a series of exciting opportunities in between. Join us for this webinar to hear from the congregations who have piloted the material this year, and to learn about how your congregation can become part of the pilot as we launch year two.
Following up on last month's presentation on the new Machzor project currently being undertaken by the Central Conference of American Rabbis, we invite you with great anticipation to join us for a webinar on the next stage – the piloting of Yom Kippur liturgy which will take place in many of our congregations this spring. This webinar, for rabbis, cantors, ritual chairs, other lay and professional synagogue leaders and members will take us further into the editorial process through which the machzor is being created.

Rabbi Vicki Tuckman, who currently works at URJ Camp Harlam as the Director of Jewish Life, and for the Congregational Consulting Group as an Education Specialist, will discuss some of the key factors for success in "immersion" education in the camping system. For the past 6 summers Rabbi Tuckman has worked to transform the Jewish educational setting at Camp Harlam into one of intentionality, striving to incorporate Jewish teachings into a formalized "Shiur" program, while also weaving Jewish values and "JTM's" (Jewish Teachable Moments) throughout the day. Particular focus will be on: relationship-building, experiential education, using multiple settings and styles, and empowering young people in leadership roles to see themselves as positive Jewish role models.
In the story of Purim, Esther develops from one who is without power or influence to a saving-the-day heroine. Together we will study why fasting was a transformative act for her, as we learn more about this well known narrative.
