We are pleased to announce that
July, 2010 marks the official launch of the Unions four District Councils.
During this past year the Unions leadership has worked diligently to align
geographically the fourteen regional councils with the already successful four congregational support centers
(East, South, Centraland West).
The district councils are committed to working
in sacred partnership with the
Unions North American leadership and professional staff to support and
strengthen both Reform Jewish congregations and the greater Reform Movement.
District council leadership will
work in partnership with the district
leadership manager, who serves as the district councils staff
adviser.
Though sharing common goals, each
district council will have the opportunity to focus on district specific issues
and create a district leadership structure and culture, reflective of its
congregational and geographic make-up.
Each district council strives to:
Promote the aims, purposes, welfare and needs of
member congregations
Provide resources, ideas and programs to assist
congregations in building capacity
Be inclusive of the diverse needs in each district
while building community among the lay leaders and congregations of the
district
Promote the mission, vision, goals and programs of
the Union
Enhance the relationship between member
congregations and the URJ
Identify and cultivate new lay leadership both for
the districts and Union board
Elect district representatives to the Unions board
of trustees.
