65th General Assembly December 1999 Orlando, Florida
Jerome Somers
The Union of American Hebrew Congregations and the 65th General Assembly express their sincere appreciation and profound gratitude to Jerome Somers for his selfless service on behalf of Reform Judaism and his remarkable leadership as Chair of the UAHC Board for the past four years.
At a time of challenge, change, and opportunity, he helped chart the future of our Union and our movement with wisdom, patience, humor, and a healthy spirit.
He played an essential role in the smooth transition between two great Presidents of our Union Rabbi Alex Schindler and Rabbi Eric Yoffie.
He was instrumental in the transition of the Union's headquarters from 838 Fifth Avenue to 633 Third Avenue, a move of significant practical and symbolic import.
He has helped to ensure the foundation of our movement's strength, vitality, and growth as we enter the twenty-first century.
For all this, we salute Jerry's vision and exemplary leadership, and we extend to him our heartfelt thanks, respect, and admiration.
May he and Marge, his devoted wife and partner, go from strength to strength, and may their years of continued service to Reform Judaism and the Jewish people be long and fruitful.
