58th General Assembly November 1985 Los Angeles, California
TERRORISM
In recent months, the horror of terrorism has stunned and shocked the world to an unprecedented degree. The brutal execution of Leon Klinghoffer again revealed the PLO's true essence as murderers, thugs, and international criminals who have no place in any world council. We deplore terrorism of any sort, from whatever source it emanates. The terror must stop!
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Union of American Hebrew Congregations:
Commends President Reagan for the effective and dramatic action in apprehending the killers and hijackers of the Achille Lauro.
Honors the memory of Leon Klinghoffer, the American Jew who was a tragic victim of terrorism and whose name has become a symbol of resistance to the evil of terrorism.
Pledges its cooperation with all appropriate worldwide efforts to check the plague of terrorism, including the use of economic and diplomatic sanctions.
Urges the governments of the United States and Canada to intensify their efforts to marshal world opinion so that civilized nations will exclude all those who give sanctuary to terrorism.
