WHEREAS many newly married couples do not seek synagogue membership until many years after their marriage; and

WHEREAS they are thus deprived of the synagogue membership and synagogues are deprived of their strength;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Union of American Hebrew Congregations urge all of its member congregations, who do not now do so, to seek affiliation of newly married couples through appropriate programming and through offering attractive incentives, including one year of free membership, to such couples who apply for membership within one year of the time of their marriage.
