Bookkeeper - Greene Family Camp

This full-time position is located in Bruceville, TX.

Job Summary:

The bookkeeper has primary responsibility for all accounting, bookkeeping and financial management tasks at the Camp including accounts payable and accounts receivable. The registrar’s primary responsibility is the successful registration of all campers and participants in camp run programs including summer staff and rental groups.

 

Essential Functions:

 

Financial Management:

Collect, distribute, and reconcile all camp funds, which would include camper and staff trip money, two week extended tuitions, payroll, petty cash, on location accounts payable and international payroll.

·         Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and petty cash processes.

·         Responsible reconciling local bank account statements.

·         Process credit card transactions.

·         Prepare monthly financial package and reports.

·         Primary camp liaison with customers (camper parents and other users of camp facility) and vendors relating to collections and payments.

·         Build and maintain appropriate relationships with local vendors for prompt and accurate delivery and service.

·         Evaluate and assess vendor relationship and insure camp is getting best possible pricing.

·         Develop processes in conjunction with Director to insure expenses and revenue are tracking to budget.

·         Provide financial support to development resources.

·         Work cooperatively with the NY office and provide accurate and timely reports and information as required.

 

Office Administration:

·         Maintain books and records of camp, including camper and staff files.

·         Provide ad hoc support to Camp Director.

 

Communication:

·         Collect and communicate important information (both print and verbal announcements) to vendors, staff & camper families so that people are informed and recognize the office as a ‘centralized information hub’ where they can go with questions.

·         Respond to calls from members of the public – e.g. families and congregations – promptly and courteously.

Technology Skills: Is proficient using computers and in adopting new technologies, able to use a variety of software packages. Proficient in MS Excel.

 

Attention to Detail: Consistently focuses on detail and insures all accounts reconcile. Effectively catches errors and appropriately resolves and escalates problems.

 

Customer Orientation: Demonstrates concern for and attends to the needs of the internal and external customer; projects a sense of empathy and understanding when dealing with customers; is able and willing to supply answers and resources that the customer finds satisfying.

 

Organizational Knowledge: Knowledgeable about how the organization works; knows how to get things done both through formal channels and informal networks; can maneuver through complex political situations effectively and quietly; anticipates where the organizational barriers are and plans his/her approach accordingly.

 

Team Orientation: demonstrates interest, skill and success in team environments; places group goals ahead of personal agendas; steps up to offer self as a resource to other members of the team; understands and supports the importance of teamwork; shares credit for success with others.

Minimum Qualifications:

 

·         Highly organized and responsible.

·         Advanced computer literacy and be knowledgeable in operation of word processing, spreadsheet, Microsoft Outlook, and database programs.

·         Knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping principals and practices.

·         Bachelor’s Degree required with a major in accounting strongly preferred.

·         Familiarity with Jewish traditions, practices and values very strongly preferred. Ownership of the mission of URJ camping system required.

Physical Requirements:

·         Ability to sit and use a computer for several hours at a time.

·         Sufficiently mobile to get around rustic camp setting which may require use of stairs.

·         Able to carry boxes of up to 30lbs containing non?perishable goods such as office supplies or clothing.
