Kitchen Manager - URJ Olin Sang Ruby Institute

This is a full-time year-round position located in Oconomowoc, WI.

This is a full-time, year-round position which entails responsibility for all food purchasing, production and service in the Union Institute for every related function of the Union Institute including nutrition, service, sanitation, personnel management, customer service and record keeping.  The Kitchen Manager is responsible for the delivery of a nutritional, well-balanced, fiscally-sound food program.

The position is based at our facility in Oconomowoc, WI and reports to the Director or Associate Director.  This is a professional staff role and the Kitchen Manager will work collegially with the Physical Plant Manager as well as other staff of the camp year-round.  We seek a person who will respect the institution, the facility and most of all the people we serve and our staff.

During the summer, there are approximately 25 to 40 commissary staff at various times. The rest of the year there will be approximately 8 to 12 staff from which some will be used on a regular basis and others as-needed. Summer programs will serve between 600 to 800 individuals on a daily basis while the rest of the year will be primarily focused on weekend activities.

 

Responsibilities:

·         Supervision of cooking, hiring and supervision of staff, supervision of all food service areas

·         Reporting to other supervisory personnel, providing input on needs for the commissary, managing commissary budget and advising the Director on all areas related to food service

·         Inventory control and management

·         Provide hospitality while being in regular contact with participants of the various Union Institute programs as well as interacting with staff members and program supervisors for the purpose of evaluating the quality of service and food to better advise the executive staff on recommended changes

·         Recommend nutritionally balanced menus, purchase inventory and oversee the preparation of meals both in camp as well as program prepared for our of camp trips

·         Hiring, training and supervision of subsidiary staff

·         Ensure cleanliness of kitchen, dining halls and all food service areas

·         Maintain equipment and call for repairs as necessary

·         File government forms in accordance with various food programs for which the Union Institute is eligible

Qualifications:

  • Safe Serve certification
  • Food service supervisory experience
  • Minimum 5 years camp experience
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
