Assistant Camp Director - URJ Greene Family Camp (Bruceville, TX)

Reporting to the Summer Camp Director, the Assistant Camp Director serves as a key advisor to the Greene executive team and an active participant in making strategic decisions affecting the organization. This Assistant Director is responsible for helping to conceive and operate Greene Family Camp's summer camp program.. In addition, this individual's position includes a portfolio to be determined after hire. The position involves residence at Camp throughout the summer. It also includes responsibility for either the greater Austin and San Antonio area or the greater Houston Area.

Responsibilities

Year Round
•    Staff Recruitment
o    Implement human resource management practices to recruit and retain seasonal staff, including recruitment and training of seasonal staff.
o    Recruit staff based on camper enrollment and program management requirements as well as Jewish educational goals.
o    Coordinate the work of international staffing agencies to retain non-North American staff.
o    Offer opportunities for professional development to current staff and recent staff alumni
o    Encourage current staff to participate in various fellowship opportunities and liaise with participating staff members.
o    Encourage participation in summer and year round programs.
o    Oversee the payroll and financial aspects of the seasonal staff structure.
•    Camper Recruitment
o    In partnership with Director and staff team, develop and implement a strategic marketing and recruitment plan to ensure program enrollment goals are met.
o    Travel throughout the region to recruit campers. Retain and coordinate seasonal staff members to participate in various recruiting efforts
•    Summer Preparations
o    In consultation with the Director, prepare programs, activities and trips for the upcoming summer, and support the physical preparation of the camp, including ordering and inventorying supplies, purchasing equipment, etc.
o    Develop staff orientation and training programs prior to and during the summer.
o    This portfolio includes the organization and coordination of all off-site field trips and transportation logistics and program.
o    Remain current with information on the developmental needs of youth.
•     Plan, administer and run events during the year that promote the summer camp program.



Summer
•    Provide opportunities for program staff and support staff to enhance their skill level and to provide input into the camp’s program and operation.
•    Develop summer training programs for orientation prior to the summer as well as on-going opportunities throughout the summer.
•    Supervise and evaluate seasonal staff.
•    Encourage program participants to attain leadership training and experience through service on the camp’s staff. This is intended to provide not only a source of employees for the camp, but additional years of Jewish connections and experiences for the individual.
•    Encourage staff members to become a part of the larger Jewish community and prepare staff to apply for roles in the Jewish professional world.
•    Additional portfolio items based on the skills and interests of the employee.


Qualifications
•    High energy and passion for Greene’s mission is essential
•    3-plus years of professional experience in an organizational environment with demonstrated success
•    A deep knowledge of best camping practices, creative informal education and a willingness to stay current with new methods
•    A working knowledge of office software applications including but not limited to the MS Office suite.
•    Tangible experience of having managed complex staff and business relationships.
•    Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; ability to influence and engage a wide range of employees and clients while building long-term relationships
•    Flexible and adaptable style; willing to engage in all areas of camp
•    Ability to work both independently without close oversight, but also a team player who will productively engage with others at varying levels of seniority within and outside Greene
•    Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail
•    A professional and resourceful style; the ability to take initiative, and to manage multiple tasks and projects at a time
•    Bachelor's degree required. Masters preferred.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
•    Able to travel extensively
•    Ability to sit and use a computer for several hours at a time.
•    Sufficiently mobile to get around rustic camp setting which may require use of stairs.
•    Able to carry boxes of up to 30lbs containing non-perishable goods such as office supplies or clothing.
•    Capable of working effectively in a stressful environment.
•    Able to live at camp during the summer season
•    Able to live and work in Austin area or Houston area during the off season.
