I know you and every member of your congregation share my horror and sorrow at the events unfolding in Littleton, Colorado, and want to know what can be done to help the people of the community as well as to prevent such horrors in the future. We hope this information can be of help.

1. Rabbi Sue Ann Wasserman of the Department of Religious Living has prepared the attached prayer in memory of the lives lost in Littleton. We urge you to include it during your worship this Shabbat. It may also be useful in your religious school classes as you discuss the events in Littleton.

2. The UAHC has a long-standing policy advocating gun control. The attached statement, prepared by Rabbi Marc Israel at the Religious Action Center, summarizes our position and history on the issue. Please copy it and share it with your congregation. You may also find it helpful for letters to the editor, communications with other faith leaders, the press, etc.

3. Anna Persin, a rabbinic student from HUC-JIR in Cincinnati, is the student rabbi of Congregation B'ani Chaim in Littleton. She has been in touch with the families and we are relieved to learn that all of the high school students from the congregation are safe. Notes of prayer and support for the community may be sent to the congregation at PO Box 621303, Littleton, CO 80162-1303.
