The Union of American Hebrew Congregations urges its member congregations across North America to take note during Shabbat services this week of the tragic death of Dr. Barnett Slepian, a congregant at Temple Beth Am in Buffalo, New York.
Here is a sample of what you might choose to read just prior to the Mourner's Kaddish:
As our thoughts turn now to those who have died in recent weeks or at this season in years past, we call particular attention to the name of Dr. Barnett Slepian, a member of Temple Beth Am in Buffalo, New York, who was murdered one week ago upon his return home from Shabbat services. Dr. Slepian was a compassionate physician, a devoted husband and father, a committed Jew, and a man of moral conviction and courage. As we lament and condemn the terrorism that brought an end to his life, we celebrate and are grateful for the life he lived. May God comfort his family, friends, patients and all those who mourn his death, and may they and we learn from the rich and loving example he set.
