TO: All UAHC CONGREGATIONS FROM: Rabbi Eric Yoffie RE: Security
Of course we are still numb, horrified at the bombings earlier today that have taken so many lives and left us shocked and distraught as we prepare for the High Holy Day season. Our thoughts are with the families of those who have been killed or injured in today's attacks.
In light of today's tragic terrorist activities, we suggest the following actions:
1. Please check with your local police department and federation for the latest recommendations.
2. Activate your congregational security plan. Please be sure to take precautions that all doors and windows are locked or patrolled.
4. If you have a school or preschool, please make plans to remain open until every child can be picked up.
5. Contact your local Red Cross or blood bank to determine if blood is needed, and encourage your members to participate in this life saving mitzvah of giving.
In addition, we urge you to remember that in times of crisis, our Jewish community stands together. You may wish to remain open this evening and tomorrow for members who wish to gather in prayer and mourning.
The UAHC is preparing materials to be used in preschools, religious schools and day schools and also at home by parents. We will distribute these as quickly as possible by e-mail, fax, and on the Web.
There are no words to express our horror at today's events, which are unfolding too rapidly to comprehend. Join us in praying for the victims, their families and the leadership of our country.
