Union for Reform Judaism Greene Family Camp in Bruceville, TX Opens as a Hurricane Rita Shelter

 September 22, 2005—The Union for Reform Judaism Greene Family Camp in Bruceville, near Waco, has opened as a shelter for those evacuating in advance of Hurricane Rita.

Those seeking shelter are urged to call the camp in advance at 254.859.5411.

Loui Dobin, director of the camp, said he has been in contact with the Red Cross and local emergency officials, and that the camp can accommodate as many as 1,500 evacuees.

As of Thursday morning, 50 individuals were already at the camp, with another 150 expected by Thursday evening Patients and staff from the Center for Success and Independence, a residential treatment center for adolescents in Houston, will also be evacuating to the camp. The regional Reform Jewish camp at 1192 Smith Lane in Bruceville,at has served as a shelter in previous hurricanes.
Greene Family Camp is one of twelve summer camp institutes owned by the Union for Reform Judaism. The camp is located near Waco, TX.
