Reform Worship Planned for High Holy Days in greater New Orleans

The Jewish community in the Greater New Orleans area is invited to worship during the approaching Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur holidays with the Reform Movement at the Northshore Jewish Congregation in Mandeville, which will be holding a full schedule of services, and at joint Rosh Hashanah morning services at Touro Synagogue and Yom Kippur day services at Gates of Prayer. All Rosh Hashanah (October 3-5) and Yom Kippur (October 12-13) services will be open to everyone, without a need for High Holiday tickets.

Northshore Jewish Congregation sustained relatively minor damage in Hurricane Katrina, and was able to re-open its sanctuary in late September. "We were incredibly fortunate to have sustained virtually no major damage," says Rabbi Jeffrey Kurtz-Lendner, the congregation’s spiritual leader. "And, during the holiest time of the Jewish year, we want to make sure we share our blessings with those who were not as lucky."

The leadership of Gates of Prayer, Touro Synagogue and Temple Sinai are planning joint worship opportunities. The clergy of Touro Synagogue and Gates of Prayer will lead community services in Houston, Baton Rouge and Greater New Orleans. The clergy of Temple Sinai will be leading worship in Baton Rouge at Congregation B'nai Israel.

The schedule of services is as follows:

All services will be held at the congregation’s main sanctuary, located at 1403 North Causeway Boulevard in Mandeville (unless otherwise indicated). For more information, please visit the website at, or contact the temple at 985.951.7976.
