Major Jewish Music Publishers to Join Forces Transcontinental Music Publications to Take Over Sounds Write Productions
May 1, 2007 -Under an agreement reached in principle, Transcontinental Music Publications will take over the marketing, distribution, and publishing of the Jewish music catalog currently handled by Sounds Write Productions, Inc. Sounds Write has showcased some of the finest singer-songwriters and musicians creating Jewish music in North America since it was founded in 1988 and is the leading distributor of contemporary Jewish music CDs in North America.
Between now and the time the acquisition closes, which is expected to occur this summer, Victor Ney, Director of Business Operations at Transcontinental and others on its staff will be speaking with the artists now represented by Sounds Write to discuss the production and distribution of their works in the future.
Randee Friedman, founder and president of Sounds Write, said she was delighted with the tentative terms of the agreement, under which she will donate the Sounds Write business to the Union for Reform Judaism. Transcontinental will purchase the bulk of Sounds Writes inventory at cost.
I want Sounds Write to be part of an organization of longstanding stability and respectability where our artists can have their work reach an even larger audience, Friedman said. I am thrilled with Transcontinentals interest and this opportunity for our artists!
Ney said Transcontinental will continue to operate the Sounds Write website, www.soundswrite.com . Sounds Write has an excellent reputation as the place to go to for many contemporary Jewish artists, and we want to be sure that their fans can easily find their CDs.
Transcontinental Music Publications, a division of URJ Books and Music, is the worlds largest publisher of Jewish music, including songbooks, choral and sheet music, and CDs. It is the music publishing arm of the Union for Reform Judaism.
