The mission of the URJ is to provide vision, leadership and programmatic support to Reform Jewish congregations and to perpetuate and advance Reform Judaism. One of the goals in fulfilling its mission is to promote the enrichment and growth of Judaism through Reform Jewish Congregations.
In order to accomplish this particular goal the URJ must have financially healthy congregations. One of the many ways in which the URJ can assist our congregations in attaining financial well being is to provide synagogue leaders with system-wide statistical information that will be of help in both the long-range planning efforts and day-to-day operations.
Gathering the Information
As part of the responsibility of membership, our member congregations provide financial and membership information to the URJ on an annual basis. It is information that is provided by our lay leadership that reflects our congregations that is used in developing the comparisons that are being shared.
Each congregation has its own challenges and opportunities, and therefore, we strongly urge the knowledge you gain from the information presented be viewed with the lens of your congregation's mission, vision, congregation's lifecycle stage, and the demographics of your community as you interpret the meaning for your congregation.
