Part of the Summer Learning Institute

Now in its eleventh year, the Schindler Fellows Program for Conversion Certification will prepare you to work in partnership with your rabbi as you counsel, support and welcome prospective Jews into your community.

You'll train with HUC-JIR faculty members, congregational rabbis, and the URJ staff. This exceptional program won't be held again until 2013, so don't miss the opportunity to study, pray and learn skills that will help your congregation provide a warm and supportive environment for those on the path to Judaism.

Learn to Counsel Those on the Path Toward Judaism

Through participation in the Conversion Fellows Program, you will:
  • Learn to build a group that integrates study, worship and deeds of chesed (loving-kindness) as a means for Jewish growth.
  • Acquire knowledge of the history of conversion to Judaism and contemporary Reform conversion requirements.
  • Deal with such difficult issues as anti-Semitism, "who Is a Jew?" and relating to Israel.
  • Identify family issues that are faced by Jews-by-choice.
  • Understand ways to develop and deepen Jewish identity and the psychosocial process and stages of choosing Judaism.
  • Hear from those who are new to Judaism and those in the process of becoming Jews, and more.
