Enduring Understanding: Each of us possesses islands of competence or areas of strength. When Jewish youth are presented with Jewish avenues through which to pursue their islands of competence, they make significant gains in their own self-esteem and Jewish identity. Youth workers are the facilitators for connecting each individual's island of competence to congregational life.
