Cantor Lisa Levine, Temple Shalom, Chevy Chase, MD
My memories of Debbie begin at UAHC Camp Swig when I was a youngster where she inspired me to sing, to write, to love being Jewish.
From
our time together in classes with Cantor William Sharlin in LA to CAJE
Conferences and our many emails and the concerts I attended and we shared, her
music, her spirit, her smile and her heart captured me in a way I can never
express. Debbie is the reason I turned to Jewish music and became a Jewish
professional. Without her guidance, mentoring and support I would not be who I
am today. She knew that and was always quietly encouraging me. My heart has a
hole as big as the sky...but memories flood me and music fills me, just as her
spirit lives on in me and in everyone who her spark touched. The reality of our
loss is yet to be felt but the beauty of her spirit continues to inspire. We
will sing your praises, sweet singer of Israel, until our souls are one.
