Alex Cicelsky, Kibbutz Lotan, Israel

My favorite Shabbat services on Kibbutz Lotan are those when Inda (Inspired particularly by Debbie and the many other song and prayer leaders who blessed our camps and congregations with music) and our son Shahar lead us in prayer and song.

They use their guitars as guides so that the cadence of our words stride together with rainbow of our unique voices. We pray alone and meditate together – bound by the strings of music. Visitors tell us that the melodies calm them and serve to engage them with the community spirit that we rekindle each Shabbat. Debbie's music and spirit has been and will remain an integral thread in this fabric – the tapestry of my Jewish experience, expression and community. I'll remember her as I continue my prayer filled song.
