I met Debbie Friedman at my first CAJE in 1986. I was wearing the first timer's ribbon and Debbie made sure to say hello to me and make me feel welcome.
Years later, I was the one to register her in to her dorm room at the CAJE in Seattle. Despite her great fame, she still roomed with the rest of us. I have such a fond memories of being in Debbie's CAJE chorale and of a multi-session course with Debbie and Rabbi Kelman. Debbie sang at Temple Sholom in Vancouver and it was a memorable evening for all concerned - we raised the roof and danced in the aisles for hours. Debbie's songs form the basis of our Temple's healing service held every Yom Kippur afternoon. Thank you Debbie.
