Dear Kallah-niks and Future Kallah-niks,
Knowing how important Kallah is in the lives of those who cherish time for study, prayer and spiritual renewal, I write with the sad news that we are going to suspend Kallah for one year.
We made this difficult decision, knowing that many of you have made attending Kallah the highlight of your summer. But the economic reality is that people are watching their spending closely and that, no matter how important attending is to their personal spiritual renewal, Kallah represents discretionary spending. And, given the Union’s fiscal restraints, we cannot afford to run the program with a deficit.
We remain committed to continuing the Kallah, which represents the Reform Movement at its best through study, worship and community. It is our plan that Kallah will return in 2010.
For those who are able to spend some time in intensive study this summer, I urge you to consider being part of one of the other wonderful opportunities available through the Union, our camps and affiliates. A list of these learning opportunities is available on our website.
If you have any questions, please contact me.
