S’lichot falls on September 20, Rosh HaShanah begins at sundown on September 29, and Yom Kippur, beginning with Kol Nidrei, starts on the evening of October 8. Arguably, every aspect of your role as a synagogue leader has an ethical dimension, including how you speak to others. Your communication with both your fellow board members and congregants should reflect an awareness of the biblical dictum that life and death are in the power of the tongue. Gossip should be avoided.
