Last year, we were bursting at the seams on the High Holy Days. This year, we decided that we needed to go off-site, but we knew we could not afford to rent space. Our solution was to team up with a local retirement home, reasoning that the home has a large Jewish population that would benefit from a rabbi conducting services on-site and that we needed the space. We held our services in the retirement home and opened attendance to its members. There was no cost involved––in fact, the home provided apples and honey on erev Rosh HaShanah and food for a light break-the-fast. Having the retirement residents with us enhanced our services immeasurably.
