We received an Endowment Challenge to raise $2 million in honor of our 125th Anniversary as a congregation. A foundation agreed to match, at 50 percent, each endowment gift during the campaign. We used this opportunity to increase our Chai Society from 25 members to 125 members. Our Chai Society members donate $20,000 in return for lifetime membership in our congregation. These gifts were matched by the foundation as well. As a result, we met the challenge, raised $2 million from our members and another $1 million in matching funds from the foundation, and are well on our way toward the realization that congregational life will continue in perpetuity, strengthening our entire Jewish community, ensuring that the spiritual and program needs of all of our members will continue to be met, and transmitting the values that represented Congregation Emanuel 125 years ago.
