RABBI YOFFIE CALLS FOR TEN MINUTES OF TORAH
FOR TEMPLE BOARD MEMBERS
Rabbi Eric H. Yoffie’s Presidential Sermon, delivered on November 8, 2003, 13 Cheshvan 5764, at the Union’s Biennial Assembly in Minneapolis, MI, proposed Ten Minutes of Torah, an initiative directed especially at temple board members. Emphasizing that “Torah study is the motor that drives Jewish life,” Rabbi Yoffie reasoned that “surely we can find ten minutes to contemplate sacred words that nourish the soul.” And so the Union will offer a daily online study program that will be available at no cost to every synagogue member but “will be directed especially at temple Board members whose effectiveness as leaders flows directly from their own knowledge of Torah and their own passion for the covenant.”
