Staying In Touch: March 2008

March 2008 / Adar II 5768

This issue of the URJ College Department email is to let you know about programs and resources available to you and your college students from the Reform movement.

Gulf Coast Relief: KESHER’s Alternative Spring Break in New Orleans Blog

The work is not yet done!

Hilary Oleon, Program Associate for the URJ College Department, with 2 other staff members just returned from spending a week in New Orleans with 17 college students from North America helping to rebuild New Orleans and seeing first hand the destruction that Hurricanes Katrina and Rita left behind.  Their thoughts, feelings, reactions and pictures of their experience can be found at: http://keshercollege.org/gulfcoast/blog/

Senior Send off Shabbat

Hold a senior send off event! This wonderful way to acknowledge and celebrate a major milestone in the lives of our young people, as they move on to college or to jobs, can be held as a congregational or sisterhood program. Encourage and work with your congregational leaders and clergy to establish senior send off as an annual event. This special program can be the start of keeping in touch with your post-high school youth "Jewishly" over the next few years.

A comprehensive new guide with full recommendations for planning your send off, Senior Send Off: Celebrating and Transitioning Our High School Seniors, can be downloaded at http://www.urj.org/youth/college/seniorsendoff/. The guide also includes many ideas for staying in touch with your graduating seniors as well as information about getting connected through KESHER on their college campuses. Share this wonderful resource with the clergy, staff, and leaders of the congregation.

Inyan Israeli

Inyan Israeli, It’s an Israel Thing, is a weekly newsletter/commentary written by Dotan Harpak, the North American Shaliach to KESHER.  This weekly commentary is a Reform Zionist review of a few things that happened in Israel each week.  The goal of these pieces is to have a place to share information, ideas, thoughts, concerns, and wonders about Israel, things that have to do with Israel, things that happen in Israel and things we wish would happen in Israel. This listserve can serve as a meaningful way to connect with a network of passionate Reform Pro-Israel and Zionist students and activists.  This is a great resource for congregations and congregants alike.  For more information and to sign up for the listserve, please visit: http://keshercollege.org/israel/israelthing
