March 6, 2012 - Lessons Learned From Camp...For the Congregational Setting

Rabbi Vicki Tuckman, who currently works at URJ Camp Harlam as the Director of Jewish Life, and for the Congregational Consulting Group as an Education Specialist, will discuss some of the key factors for success in "immersion" education in the camping system. For the past 6 summers Rabbi Tuckman has worked to transform the Jewish educational setting at Camp Harlam into one of intentionality, striving to incorporate Jewish teachings into a formalized "Shiur" program, while also weaving Jewish values and "JTM's" (Jewish Teachable Moments) throughout the day. Particular focus will be on: relationship-building, experiential education, using multiple settings and styles, and empowering young people in leadership roles to see themselves as positive Jewish role models.
