Internet Resources for the Jewish Teacher

Aside from the materials available on the URJ Web site, there a variety of resources on the Internet dedicated to helping teachers and educators.

We have compiled a list of useful sites and placed them in the following categories:

Computer Tutorials

Internet4Classroom 
Contains tutorials for many popular programs, Web site development and WebQuests.

LearnThat 
This site offers free tutorials on a wide range of topics including: software and hardware usage and how to choose a PC.

Teacher Productivity Tools

Discovery School.com
Provides online templates to create puzzles, lesson plans, worksheets and quizzes.

Trackstar 
This site includes an online template that helps teachers to integrate websites into their lessons. It also contains archives of previously created tracks and allows for the creation and storage of new tracks online.

SchoolExpress.com 
Helps teachers create worksheets and awards on the computer.

Zoomerang
Free online tool for survey creation and statistical analysis.

Build your own class website

Quick Topic
This free site allows you to set up a discussion or message board for your class.

Sites to Download Education Freeware and Shareware

ZDNet Downloads
Education tools for teachers including calendars, grade books and lesson planners, are available on this site as either freeware (free) or shareware (try for free and buy later).

Symantec Norton Internet Security 
Virus protection, firewall and spam filters are available for download.

Integrating Technology Sites

International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE)
This nonprofit professional organization promotes the appropriate use of information technology to support and improve learning, teaching, and administration in grades K–12.

4Teachers 
This site discusses how to integrate technology into the classroom. It includes productivity tools and tutorials.

Education World: The Educator’s Best Friend 
Includes a plethora of information about integrating technology into the classroom and includes extensive resources for teachers.

Jewish Sites

Navigating the Bible II – Online Bar/Bat Mitzvah Tutor
This site has every Torah & Haftarah portion, in both Hebrew and transliteration. In addition, this site will chant each of the portions for you.

Virtual Jerusalem
Contains great resources on the Jewish holidays.

Akhlah: The Jewish Children’s Learning Network 
This site contains a section on the Alef-Bet that includes activities and vocabulary for each Hebrew letter.

Hebcal: Interactive Jewish Calendar Tools
This site provides information about the Hebrew calendar.

Association of Jewish Libraries 
The AJL website contains a database of Jewish children’s books by subject and annotated bibliographies for students from early childhood through high school.

Jewish Virtual Library
Contains a plethora of Jewish biographies and encyclopedia articles.

Clipart

Free Jewish Clipart
This site contains a variety of Jewish clip art available for download.

Free Jewish Images and Holiday Graphics
Presents Jewish clip art to download free of charge.
