BONIM: Building Congregational Leaders Program
This exciting program of the URJ’s New Jersey-West Hudson Valley Council helps current and future temple leaders develop a deeper understanding of synagogue life and an increased connection to the Reform Movement, their congregations, their lay and professional leaders, and the participants in the program.
The Bonim Program consists of seven sessions – four regional and three congregational. The regional programs will take place as Temple Ner Tamid in Bloomfield, NJ on the following dates: November 13, January 8, March 12 and May 7.
Ten congregations with over 75 participants in our region are currently planning to participate in the program. We will accept the participation of other URJ congregations until November 13.
Please be in touch with Pauline Hecht at phecht@urj.org if you would like more information about this program or if your congregation would like to participate in this exciting and important program!

Friends,
I have an early childhood memory of a television program which began with a black screen illuminated by the light of a candle. A voiceover announced, “It is better to light one candle than curse the darkness.” I did not understand at that time the meaning of the announcement that the following program was a production of the Christophers; nor did I get that this was a Christian-themed and sponsored show.
Best Practices Solicited
One of the benefits of working in the Regional Office is that we receive temple bulletins from all of our member congregations. It can be interesting to see the various programs that take place in your congregations and share in the excitement of creative programs taking place in our congregations.
Chaverim:
Today’s mail included the Chanukkah issue of The Source for Everything Jewish. This mail order catalogue is replete with attractive objects designed to brighten the upcoming season of dedication. Very nice. BUT -
Our Region is already adding to the brightness of our congregations and we will continue to add candle after candle to the menorah that is the New Jersey – West Hudson Valley Council.
