Raising Ethical Children: Making Menchen in an Anxious Age
Intelligence and kindness are independent virtues. How is it possible to heighten the probability that our children will be at least as kind as they are smart? We are worried about the violence, selfishness, and arrogance that may seem to pervade in our culture. What can we learn from Jewish law and lore that can help us translate ethical principles into ethical practice?
Dr. Michael Berenbaum, Ida E. King Distinguished Scholar of Holocaust Studies, Richard Stockton College, Pomona, NJ
Moderator: Rabbi Paul Menitoff, Executive Vice President, Central Conference of American Rabbis, New York, NY

Building Inspired Communities: A Vision for Synagogue Transformation
The pivotal institution in reviving Jewish life will be the synagogue." This requires imagination, courage, and emunah (faith) to envision communities that are deeper and more vibrant than those we yet know from our own experience. At the heart of synagogue transformation is the ability to imagine wildly and translate our yearnings into vision. Three rabbis will share their visions, challenging and inspiring us to translate our own Jewish longings into ideas about what congregations can become.
Rabbi Janet Marder, Congregation Beth Am, Los Altos Hills, CA
Rabbi Deborah Bronstein, Congregation Har Hashem, Boulder, CO
Rabbi Richard Jacobs, Westchester Reform Temple, Scarsdale, NY
Moderator: Robert M. Heller, Central Synagogue, New York, NY

Opening Paths to Jewish Engagement: Outreach Past and Future
Julie Gutterman Memorial Lecture in loving memory from Les and Julie's classmates and friends.

In its first 20 years, Reform Outreach has revolutionized the North American Jewish community's approach to keruv, inviting Jewish choices for all-alienated Jews, interfaith families, and seekers from all backgrounds. Given the realities of contemporary North American culture, what is the Outreach task for the future?
What do we need to do now to prepare for it?
Gary Tobin, Ph.D., President, Institute for Jewish and Community Research, San Francisco, CA
Respondant: Rabbi Karyn Kedar, Director, UAHC Great Lakes Council, Chicago, IL
Respondant: Emily Lewis, Congregation B'nai Israel, Little Rock, AR
Moderator: Dr. Marcia Abraham, Shir Ami, Newtown, PA

Baby Boomers, Older Adults, and Our Congregations: Creating a Meaningful Future
We on the verge of a true social revolution. Jewish older adults are living longer and better. At the same time, the first wave of baby boomers rushes into their fifth decade. Two generations, once alienated, now are joined by common concerns of health, entitlements and caregiving. These are generations of people seeking new definitions of meaning and purpose. What can our congregations learn from these new "seekers" of Torah?
Dr. Amy Sales, Senior Research Associate at the Cohen Center for Modern Jewish Studies at Brandeis University, Waltham, MA
Rabbi Jack Stern, Rabbi Emeritius, Westchester Reform Temple, Scarsdale, NY
