CONVERSION
…Your people shall be my people and your God my God. (Ruth 1:14-19)
For a non-Jew, converting to Judaism is a major life cycle event. The Department of Outreach and Membership works to support individuals who are learning more about Judaism. We can help you connect with a rabbi or a congregation who can assist you as you prepare yourself to become a member of the Jewish people. In addition, our department assists congregations in their community Outreach efforts. Below you will find links to our numerous synagogue resources. We also have an outstanding regional and national staff who are available to provide individualized support.
For Congregations:
Often, all it takes is an invitation and that invitation can be verbal or non verbal. Many Jews by Choice report that they would have converted sooner if someone had only asked. Our congregational resources include: The Outreach Fellows, training programs for lay leaders, conversion information brochures and glossaries for you to share with prospective converts, books and bibliographies. You can even network with others through out TalkingOutreach listserv. These resources will help your congregation to create a culture that invites and encourages conversion and supports those who are going through the process of conversion.
If you are a synagogue Outreach chair or if you do programming for interfaith couples and their families, don’t miss our monthly Outreach newsletter. We will keep you posted on the newest Outreach resources and send you tips and suggestions to make your congregational Outreach more effective. Contact our office to make sure that your information is current in our iMIS database.
