As you may know, at the recent Union for Reform Judaism General Assembly in San Diego, URJ President Rabbi Eric Yoffie launched a major new national initiative to advocate on the state level for expanded access to health care.  This initiative builds on the Reform movement’s commitment to restructuring the health care system in the United States to provide affordable health care to all American citizens, and [name of synagogue] is proud to be serving as the Coordinating Congregation in [name of state]. 

I write today to invite you to join us in this vital, sacred, work.  Working closely with a broad based coalition we will organizing a “Lobby Day” in [name of state capital].  We will work together as a Reform Jewish community and join with other concerned citizens to call on our state officials to make Health Care Reform a state priority.

The health care crisis in the United States remains a pressing concern as 47 million Americans were uninsured for the entirety of 2006-2007 and 89.6 million Americans were uninsured for at least part of the year.  The Jewish tradition teaches, “Do not stand idly by the blood of your neighbor” (Lev. 16).  Please help us to uphold this principle by joining the fight for Universal Health Care.
