National Organizations with State Affiliates

  • Americans for Health Care is a project of Service Employee International Union. It has chapters in several states with a goal of making health care the top priority in the 2008 presidential election.
  • The American Federation of Sate, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) has chapters across the United States for workers in various fields and has taken a leadership role in health care reform in the United States.
  • The American Medical Students Association has regions and chapters throughout the world for medical students. One of their strategic priorities is universal healthcare and their website has ideas for education and action, as well as information on their chapters.
  • U.S. PIRG, the Federation of State Public Interest Groups, has chapters in 26 states and works on behalf of the public for concrete results for our health and well being.
  • The American Academy of Pediatrics advocates for all access to comprehensive, age-appropriate, quality health care for all children on a state and federal level. AAP has 59 chapters in the United States and 7 in Canada.
  • Cover the Uninsured advocates for the 47 million Americans living without health care.  They organize a "Cover the Uninsured Week" every year to encourage affiliates and partners across the country to focus programatically and politically on the issue of health care.
