Model Board Resolution to Become a Builder Congregation

WHEREAS, Progressive Judaism is growing all over the world; and

WHEREAS, the Reform Jewish Movement in North America is well-established and enjoys resources to which growing Progressive communities elsewhere in the world do not have access; and

WHEREAS, new technology and a growing global community allow us the opportunity to strengthen relationships with Reform Jews across the world, learn from their traditions and wisdom, and share ours;

and

WHEREAS, we have an obligation as Reform Jews to support emerging Progressive Jewish communities in other parts of the world and establish a strong, international Reform Jewish community from which we all may benefit,

Therefore BE IT RESOLVED, that ________________________ (congregation's name) is committed to the Union for Reform Judaism Hineini Initiative and to becoming a Builder Congregation; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that as a Builder Congregation we will engage in ongoing congregation-wide study about the significance of Reform peoplehood, establish and maintain a lasting and reciprocal relationship with the progressive Jewish community in ________________________ (Israel / the former Soviet Union / Eastern Europe), and raise money for ________________________ (the building of synagogues in Mevasseret Zion and Modi'in / the sponsorship of Israeli Reform Rabbis / the training of community leaders in the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe), with a goal of at least 50 percent of our membership donating $18/year.
