Nechama, a Jewish Response to Disaster, is a volunteer organization providing clean up and recovery assistance to homes and businesses affected by natural disaster. Nechama, though based in Minnesota, has been coordinating volunteer disaster relief efforts in Mississippi and Louisiana since September, removing debris, gutting damaged homes, and preparing houses to be renovated.
To date, Nechama has been using trucks and tools that are usually based in Minnesota, but as the disaster season in the Midwest is upon us, they need additional support to maintain their presence in the South even as they continue their relief work at home. URJ support would allow them to continue their deployment in Greater New Orleans directing weekly groups of 25 volunteers from Jewish organizations throughout the US. These funds cover the cost of their equipment for the summer deployment, including tools and heavy machinery for gutting property.
