Rabbi Don Goor

Just Congregations
"When I was a little boy my father - the 'real Rabbi Goor,' as he was fond of calling himself - was arrested and put in jail. I was scared, until I learned that he was in jail because he had marched with Martin Luther King. I learned at a young age that standing up for what is right is a sacred obligation.

Last year, when our Temple moved into our new synagogue campus, 700 people came together in our sanctuary to display our power as we talked about education, health-care, and the economy. A klezmer musician, a mariachi band, rabbis speaking Hebrew blessings and a Spanish language interpreter all joined together making the statement that we as a synagogue community exist to stand up for what is right. At the heart of Temple Judea, in our newly dedicated sanctuary, we made the sacred statement that we, in our new home should join together with those around us to do the holy work of building a better community for all."
- Rabbi Don Goor, Temple Judea, CA
