Jake 2

On Monday, August 23, 2010, our beloved rabbi, mentor, teacher and friend, Rabbi Lawrence "Jake" Jackofsky passed away. Jake was a person who would never hesitate to jump on a plane to help out in a crisis, to hold our hands in sickness or celebrate with us at a simcha. His long tenure with the Union was marked with thousands of caring interactions that have changed the face of dozens of congregations and thousands of Jews.

May God console all those who knew and loved Jake with all mourn in Zion and Jerusalem or because Jake loved Abraham Joshua Heschel so much we offer this:

The souls of men are candles of the lord...
Man is needed, he is a need of God

Rabbi Jake lived his life as a candle of the lord. He brought many of us to speak of divinity at our darkest moments.
