Thirty-three members of the Reform Judaism Think
Tank recently met on April 10-11 on the HUC campus in Cincinnati. Led
by consultants Richard and Emily Axelrod, the group participated in
several visioning and process sessions to clarify their goals.
The members of the Think Tank agreed on the following objectives:
a) We aim to craft a collective vision for the future of Reform Judaism: i. We recognize the need for change. ii. We see this acknowledgment as a sign of good health. iii. Reform Judaism, its institutions and Judaism itself, have been resilient and adapted to challenges in the past and will again.
b)
The Think Tank serves as a catalyst for visioning, and itself is a
collaborative process. Our action plans will be collaborative as well.
We resolve to engage with the widest possible circle of stakeholders to
contribute to the vision and suggest action plans.
c) We understand the urgent need to think big and act boldly.
d)
We will work to collect data/input through multiple conversations
between May 2011 and November 2012. A "public" visioning input session
will take place at the URJ Biennial on Thursday, December 14, 2011.
e) Data from the various conversations will be analyzed between December 2011 and February 2012.
f)
Think Tank members will meet in March 2012 at the CCAR Convention to
prioritize the thematic findings and action recommendations.
