Welcome from the West District Chair - Michael Roth
Welcome to the website of the URJ West District. The reason we are here is to support URJ congregations in the western United State and western Provinces of Canada by partnering with their clergy, staff, and lay leaders to help our congregations connect with the resources and programming of the URJ and to connect with each other.
The professional and lay leadership in the West District is committed to ensuring that our congregations in the West can benefit from all that the URJ has to offer in virtually every aspect of synagogue life; this includes consulting with congregational representatives and URJ specialists and consultants, participating in URJ programs whether in in-person or by webinars, starting or joining an affinity group in the West District or a North American networking group, sending children to NFTY programs, URJ summer camps and Israel programs, taking advantage of our many URJ educational resources, or participating in the many social action and social justice activities of the Union and its Religious Action Center. The list of the ways which the Union, and our West District in particular, is available to assist our congregations, help them meet the needs of congregants, and promote the values and ideals of the Reform Movement is endless and defies any satisfactory description in this brief welcome.
The lay leaders and professional staff of the West District look forward to working with our congregations and congregational leaders in order help them access the wealth of URJ resources and obtain whatever assistance they need as efficiently and expeditiously as possible.
In the final analysis, URJ -the congregational arm of the Reform Movement in North America- and its West District are here to help inject our congregations and our Movement with new energy, identity and purpose, thereby fostering the vibrancy of Reform Judaism through Torah (study), avodah (worship and observance) and gemilut chasadim (the pursuit of justice), creating sacred community within and among our congregations, and supporting the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, the State of Israel and the Jewish People worldwide.
Please do not hesitate to call me or the URJ professional staff of the West District listed on the West District Contact page if we can be of any assistance. Thank you for visiting our West District web site.
