In the fall of 2009, the PSW Council formed a greening
committee. The committee agreed on goals to encourage congregations to
increase participation in environmental practices related to areas such as
energy use, purchasing, recycling, community gardens, food and composting,
practices, environmental education curricula and other programs. To help
establish guidelines, the committee, in conjunction with the Religious Action
Committee, created and distributed a survey to collect information from certain
congregations already engaged in green practices. With an initial
response from thirty congregations, only four of which are from the West
District, the committee is planning to distribute the survey to congregations
within the district before creating guidelines.
