Welcome to the Greater Philadelphia Tri-State Community. There are thirty four congregations in our community and while we are centered in the greater Philadelphia area, we stretch to Central and Northern PA, Delaware and Southern NJ. We are blessed with wonderfully strong and caring leadership composed of co-chairs Susan Olinsky, and Kareen Shectman Hartwig. To date we have had an initial Presidents meeting in June of 2014 where we gave our synagogue leaders a chance to get acquainted to each other and to our leadership, and a second meeting in November 2014 with Rabbi Jonah Pesner, where we discussed the URJ 2020 initiative. Currently we are in the planning stages for a third President’s meeting to be help this Fall. We also had our first Community meeting in April 2015 titled “Strengthening Congregations for all Ages", where we had panel discussions about reaching out to young families, making camp and youth connections and keeping Empty Nesters and Boomers engaged.
We are committed to keeping an open line of communication between the URJ and our Community congregations. We view this as a valuable component in keeping you informed and engaged with both the URJ and your sister Community congregations and leadership. Our over arching goal is to preserve, support and grow the Reform Jewish Community in our region. We have great individual leaders in each congregation who are hungry and in need for strong communication and direction from their URJ.
We look forward to planning and creating future gatherings that are important to our congregations and that provide meaningful information and guidance, while opening up new channels of communication between each other. In that regard, we encourage you to play an active role in helping us decide on future topics of interest. Please feel free to contact me with your thoughts and comments.- Alan Sheinberg
