Flip the NORTH TEXAS / OKLAHOMA community region to the east and it touches the Atlantic; flip it to the west and it touches the Pacific. The large urban metroplexes have strong, growing congregations. Scattered in the piney woods of east Texas or the vast grassland plains of west Texas and Oklahoma are smaller congregations with more limited resources, some even without clergy. The immense distances, different economic climates and Jewish populations are just some of the challenges faced by our community. As a result we are experimenting with both in-person and on-line meetings to facilitate conversation and disseminate information about resources available at the URJ. We see the N TX / Ok URJ Community as an ideal test site to see if creating a community of congregations and congregational leadership results in real, measurable benefit to both large and especially smaller congregations.
