Chanukah--December Dilemma

  1. Dec 2006 Digest 184

I think one of the fears we have is for our children not getting caught up in the Christmas frenzy, especially when they are young and impressionable. So we do the eight night giving thing and now decorate with a few lights, etc. Actually, to some degree, I enjoy decorating a little. It helps with the excitement of the occasion.

I don't look at it as competing, exactly, because there is nothing for me to compete for. When I was young I always loved the colorfulness of the Christmas lights, so putting up a few Chanukah lights in my window kind of makes me happy, and I don't mind letting my neighbors know what I do celebrate.
