NY - Senior Youth Group Advisor and/or Community Hebrew High School Teacher

The Senior Youth Group Advisor is responsible for leading youth programming for members in grades 9 - 12 at Temple Beth David, a Reform Congregation in western Suffolk County.

  • Part time position: 10 months (September - June), approximately 15 hours/month
  • Direct Supervisor: Youth Committee Chair
  • The Senior Rabbi oversees the youth programming

    In addition, we are seeking a teacher for our Community Hebrew High School Program (Grades 8 - 12) which meets on Monday evenings (October - May). We welcome candidates interested in both positions or applications for either position individually.

    Activities:

    1. Plan, organize and participate in two events a month for youth group membership; some events may be planned with other Temple Beth David youth groups and/or with other congregation's Senior Youth Groups and with NFTY
    2. Participate in planning meetings with members of the Youth Group leadership
    3. In June, set annual calendar of events with Youth Group Committee
    4. Foster a relationship with NFTY NAR (New York Area Region); encourage Temple Beth David youth to participate in NFTY events

    Membership:

    1. Promote membership via emails and mailings; Temple bulletin, website and emails; social media and phone calls
    2. Maintain Youth Group membership lists
    3. Collect and submit membership applications to NFTY Regional office after review and approval by Youth Committee leadership

    Communication:

    1. Work under direction of the Rabbi and Youth Group Committee, attending meetings.
    2. Maintain contact with youth group advisors of other area Temples
    3. Maintain contact with NFTY Regional office
    4. Responsible for communication with the youth group members as listed above
    5. Counsel and advise youth group members; communicate with parents as needed
    6. Coordinate activities with Temple office and building staff
    7. Work cooperatively with all Temple groups as needed and appropriate, i.e. Purim Carnival, Youth Group BBQs; temple-wide Mitzvah Day
    8. Prepare articles and fliers about Youth Group for Temple Bulletin and website, as needed and requested

    Trips and NFTY Events:

    1. Organize application for and transportation to events
    2. Accompany youth group members to all events i.e. NFTY events and field trips
