Westchester Reform Temple, a 1,200-household congregation in
Scarsdale, NY, in nearby Westchester County (30-40 min. from NYC), is
seeking a Youth Group Advisor (YGA) to join our staff for the coming
year.
Position open for 2012 (August/Flexible) - 2013 (June)
The WRT Youth Group Advisor will:
Partner with the clergy team to lead a series of Sunday Tikkun Olam Events
(a significant percentage of which will be mandatory for 10th grade
Confirmation students and) open to all WRT teens in 9th through 12th
grade under the sponsorship of YoGWRT (the Youth Group of WRT). At least one and no more than two Tikkun Olam projects will be held each month.
Be
present in the building on all other Sundays when Religious School is
in session to meet with the YoGWRT Board, sponsor a social event, meet
with the volunteer Youth Committee, or do other tasks as required (see
descriptions beneath for details).
Join
the clergy in staffing the Confirmation Retreat to Eisner Camp (Nov.
16-18, 2012) and the 9th and 10th grade trip to the Religious Action
Center in Washington DC (Jan. 25-28, 2013).
Teach an 8th/9th grade elective class in Mercaz, our Center for post-B'nei Mitzvah education, on Wednesday evenings.
Accompany
WRT teens (assuming a minimum number participate) to NFTY Kallot - at
least two per year under the sponsorship of YoGWRT.
Meet
regularly with the YoGWRT Teen Board to plan and create approximately 4
social events per year and serve as staff at these events.
Develop new leadership for YoGWRT.
Update
and maintain a Teen Newsletter and calendar both in print and online,
with information about WRT teen activities as well as opportunities
elsewhere in Westchester County.
Meet regularly with the chairs of the Youth Committee and with the Youth Committee.
Work with the clergy to coordinate the Spring Confirmation class fundraiser.
Work with the clergy to coordinate the Consecration and Confirmation Services.
Hours:
Sundays - 3 hours to full day depending on the events on the Teen calendar
Wednesdays - hours to be determined but will include 5:00 PM - 8:30 PM for Mercaz
Approximately 5 weekends per year (for WRT programs and NFTY retreats)
Other hours as required by the programs developed by YOGWRT
This
position is listed for 10 months per year: mid-August through mid-June
(may vary depending on date of the Confirmation service)
