We are seeking a professional to join a team launching a cutting-edge initiative that will push the boundaries of Jewish programming to unlock the excitement of Judaism for young singles and couples, families and seekers.

The ideal candidate will be a creative, out-of-the-box thinker and a detail-oriented self-starter able to juggle multiple tasks; work comfortably in a team; contribute to both large-scale and smaller, in-depth events; and handle administrative responsibilities including hiring, evaluation, marketing, and budgets.

The Center will reflect the mission inherent in Temple Emanu-El’s self-description as a “bold Reform congregation where warmth and majesty meet” and offer bold experiences that reflect American Judaism in the making, to instill and nurture progressive spiritual, cultural and ethical Jewish identity.

The Associate Director will be a part of the Temple professional team and will report to the Executive Director of both the Tisch Center and the Streicker Center, Temple Emanu-El’s adult education program, which now attracts 40,000 New Yorkers a year with a broad portfolio of events and classes designed to meet the varied interests of the community.

 

PROGRAMMATIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

•   Work with the Executive Director and team to design a rich calendar of innovative programs for each of the targeted audiences (young professionals, families, and seekers);

•   Establish connections with key players in the community who will contribute to programs and provide access to unique venues;

•   Foster relationships with various departments within the temple to maximize member participation in Tisch Center activities;

•   Research and schedule educators for programs;

•   Teach/lead events when appropriate;

•   Attend all events.

 

ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:

•  Develop and implement a marketing plan

•  Oversee and track all expenditures for the annual budget;

•  Supervise a small team of permanent and temporary staff who will organize the details and oversee the events;

•   Work with other team members to identify locations, vendors and all other logistical needs on an event by event basis;

•   Hire, train and supervise part-time staff for pre-event preparation as well as on-site;

•  Oversee all administrative and organizational aspects of special events (including speaker communication and preparation and evaluation);

•  Hire, train and supervise faculty and additional staff;

•   Research and schedule educators for programs;

•   Establish a center evaluation system and oversee its implementation.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

-    Creative thinker comfortable operating outside traditional norms;

-    Outstanding interpersonal skills with a wide range of people;

-    Organized and detail-oriented;

-    Resourceful self-starter willing to take full ownership of own work;

-    Resilient enough to handle setbacks, changes, and last-minute challenges;

-    Superb multitasker with excellent problem-solving skills;

-    Strong relationship builder within and beyond the Jewish community;

-    Masters or rabbinic degree; 3-5 year’s experience
