Dr. Steve Weitz

Dr. Steve Weitz (he/him) is a former president of Temple Beth-El in Hillsborough, NJ and continues to sit on the temple board. Steve joined the URJ North American Board in 2010. He has been a member of the URJ executive board and has served as URJ vice chair. Currently, Steve is a member of the executive committee, chairing both the URJ Ethics Council and the URJ Congregational Ethics Task Force. At Temple Beth-El, Steve developed and led the congregation’s Mitzvat Torah initiative through which his congregation commissioned its own sefer Torah and donated an existing scroll to a synagogue in Vitebsk, Belarus. Steve is also a retired clinical psychologist.

As part of the continuing effort by the URJ and our Movement partners to ensure safe, respectful, and equitable workplaces, the URJ is urging all congregations to adopt an ethics code that addresses the behavior of lay leaders, volunteers, congregants, and staff.
