BJBE Coordinator of Youth and Family Engagement

BJBE, B’nai Jehoshua Beth Elohim, a vibrant reform congregation in Deerfield, Illinois is looking for a Coordinator of Youth and Family Engagement. This is a shared position with URJ Olin-Sang-Ruby Union Institute (OSRUI), and the Coordinator will spend the school year at BJBE and the summer in residence at OSRUI in a leadership position (from approximately Memorial Day to August 15). We are looking for someone who will be a role model for Jewish values, bring an enthusiasm for Jewish living, and be a strong leadership presence with the ability to engage our families and create community.


Our Coordinator of Youth and Family Engagement will:

  • Manage our three youth groups for children in grades 2-12.
  • Coordinate family engagement programming for families with children in grades K-3.
  • Supervise our madrichim program, overseeing the teen assistants in the classrooms.
  • Work with the Director of Education to implement chugim and camp-style programming into the Jewish Learning Center curriculum.
  • Build relationships with families currently sending kids to OSRUI and work to cultivate prospective camp families, particularly in grades K-3.
  • Foster and support the continued growth of “camp culture” at congregation, including coordinating programming that highlights the value and impact of camp.


Responsibilities include:

  • Implementing monthly activities for each youth group, including finalizing logistics, publicity, recruitment, tracking attendance and chaperoning events.
  • Coordinate monthly Sunday-morning family programs and Shabbat dinners for families with children in grades K-3.
  • Staff family and parent engagement programs and cultivate relationships with families in grades K-3.
  • Supervising the high school youth group board in their monthly meetings, encouraging growth and leadership development for each teen.
  • Develop and implement training and supervision process for the madrichim program.
  • Direct teaching in Chai School, chugim, and other areas where appropriate.
  • Attending some off-season events at OSRUI, such as Midwinter Faculty Retreat, Family Camp, and Prospective Camper Days.
